Circular economy – the trend now is to consume intelligently and sustainably

The subscription market, although not new, has become a trend after the Covid-19 pandemic. Nowadays, practically everything can be subscribed to, from clothes, food, books, pet products and even furniture, all available with just a few taps on the cell phone screen, with the aim of offering convenience and flexibility to the consumer.

With subscription clubs on the rise, there has been a lot of talk about the circular economy. This concept proposes a direct change in the way we consume – from product design to our relationship with raw materials and waste. With its enormous potential for economic growth and accelerating the path towards a sustainable future, the circular economy has increasingly appeared at executive boardrooms. Tuim , the first subscription-based home furnishings company in Brazil, was born with this premise of more conscious consumption in mind.

Known as the “Netflix of furniture,” the startup was born as a simple and intelligent solution for consuming furniture, with total autonomy for the consumer to choose exactly what they want and for the period they need it. The idea is to make society rethink the current consumption of furniture, based on the movement seen in recent years in which the world has definitively entered a new era of consumption, a phenomenon known as 'the end of ownership'.

When we think about the efficient use of resources with less waste, use becomes the main focus. The concept of ownership is becoming increasingly obsolete. In this way, furniture subscriptions, in addition to offering more freedom to the consumer, make ideas of sustainability increasingly common.

With increasingly busy routines and smaller properties, the subscription model allows consumers to adapt furniture to their style and needs whenever they want, offering flexibility and agility to change.

Now it is possible, for example, to exchange that piece of furniture that is no longer useful for another that makes more sense at that moment or stage of life. In other words: a renovated home with zero impact on the environment.

The furniture industry has numerous environmental impacts due to the large volume of waste generated, irrational exploitation, waste of wood and the use of toxic substances, which is why renting furniture helps, especially in increasing the useful life of the furniture, which can add more life, color and joy to another home, when it is no longer useful to you. So, what do you think about renting instead of buying?
