Lojas na 25 de março: um guia pra você se encontrar no paraíso das compras

Shops on 25 de Março: a guide to help you find your way to a shopping paradise

Rua 25 de Março, which received this name in honor of the date on which the first Brazilian constitution was promulgated, in 1824, is today known throughout Brazil for another reason: its intense commerce and great prices.

It is estimated that there are around 3 thousand stores in the region, both in “25”, as it is known, and in Ladeira Porto Geral, which also has thousands of establishments.

And it's common to get lost and not know where to start when you get there. There are thousands of options for decoration, clothing, jewelry, electronics stores...

Main products and where to buy

And let's get straight to the point, shall we? First, it's good to know that several streets around 25 are "specialized" in certain products, for example:

Barão de Duprat and Ladeira Porto Geral are the right places to buy costumes and decorations. São Caetano Street, known as “bride street”, has everything you need for parties. Florêncio de Abreu Street has stores selling machinery and equipment.

Santa Efigênia has several electronics stores. If you are looking for packaging, Cantareira Street is your destination. On Paula de Sousa Street, you can find everything for the kitchen. And the Cantareira Municipal Market has everything related to grains, nuts and cereals.

General tips

  • Prefer to go by public transport, since finding a parking space is almost impossible. São Bento station is very close by !
  • If you already have your eye on a specific product (toys, for example), a good idea is to create an itinerary, so you don't fall into the trap of going into every store you see.
  • Shops open at 8am. If you don't want to face the crowds, it's a good idea to arrive early.
  • The Porto Geral shopping mall, at number 14 on the street of the same name, is the ideal place for a break: it has bathrooms and food outlets.
