Restaurantes na República: Gastronomia no centro

Restaurants in the Republic: Gastronomy in the center

Finding good restaurants in República is a very inviting task. A neighborhood that has all the necessary infrastructure and commerce so that you don't even need to leave there to look for services in other neighborhoods, if you don't want to. This is the República neighborhood , which is in the center of the capital of São Paulo and has several restaurants!

Known for its bars that have a large LGBT following, the neighborhood has this name because it is located around Praça da República.

But this square, when it first appeared, was called Largo dos Curros and hosted rodeos and bullfighting tournaments in the 19th century, did you know that?

Over the years, the square received several other names. It was only in 1889, shortly after the Proclamation of the Republic, when the São Paulo City Council decided the names of several streets and squares in the city through a vote, that it was renamed and received its current name.

With the construction of the Viaduto do Chá, a few years later, connecting the Old Center to the New Center of the city, the square was strengthened and around it, the República neighborhood was formed.

In contrast to the Sé neighborhood, which was also known as “Old Center”, República came to be considered the “New Center”.

It is in the neighborhood that some of the city's main tourist attractions and important buildings are located, such as Ipiranga and São João avenues, the Municipal Theater, the Copan Building, the Piques Obelisk, the São Paulo City Hall, the Mário de Andrade Municipal Library, Largo do Arouche and the Post Office Palace.

Business

The neighborhood is very well served by commerce, with several streets dedicated to this purpose, such as Vinte e Quatro de Maio, Sete de Abril and Barão de Itapetininga. The Light and Pátio Higienópolis shopping malls are also close to the neighborhood.

And, as in the entire city of São Paulo, the República neighborhood has a little bit of everything that gastronomy can offer. From simple bars to excellent and sophisticated restaurants. From the most common Brazilian food to the best dishes of international cuisine.

Let's get to know some of these restaurants in the Republic?

Le Casserole has been in the neighborhood since 1954 and was founded by a French couple at Largo do Arouche, number 346. It is located right in front of the Flower Market.

Z Deli

Another restaurant that is quite traditional in São Paulo – it has been around since 1980 – and has been in República since 2017. It is one of the most highly regarded burger joints in the city and is located at Rua Bento Freitas, 314.

Another unique feature of the place is that pasta, bread, sauces, desserts and sausages are made in-house without preservatives or chemical additives.

Esther Rooftop

Modernity and sophistication are the strong points here. This space belongs to the presenter and chef Olivier Anquier and was opened in 2016 in the Esther Building, located at Rua Basílio da Gama, number 29.

This rooftop offers an incredible view of the square that gives the neighborhood its name. You have to go to this place. Especially at night, the view is beautiful.

The space is very modern, has incredible drinks and gourmet dishes, so you can enjoy a different experience.

Italy Terrace

Another place to enjoy a beautiful view of São Paulo. This is an extremely sophisticated Italian restaurant, which offers candlelit dinners to the sound of the piano.

Opened in the late 1960s at the top of one of the most iconic buildings in the capital of São Paulo, the Edifício Itália, which is now the second tallest in the city.

It serves typical Italian dishes under the command of a Tuscan chef who spares no effort to provide good times. The restaurant has over 200 labels in its wine cellar.

The laughing cat

One of the restaurant's attractions is that it has its own pasta factory, which customers can visit before tasting the dishes.

It has dishes that have been on the menu since the restaurant was created, maintaining the tradition and standard of recipes ever since.

However, they also have good Brazilian food, such as a feijoada buffet that is very popular among visitors.
