Domingo em São Paulo? Que tal Comer, Rezar e Amar?

Sunday in São Paulo? How about Eat, Pray and Love?

Sunday in São Paulo, feeling lazy? Forget it! Come with me and I'll tell you how to enjoy this slow day in a delicious way!

Eat, Pray, Love is one of those romantic movies that you watch in the afternoon, but it has a great title. The book was written by Elizabeth Gilbert, and the movie starred Julia Roberts. Well, far from being a romantic drama, living in São Paulo has a lot of these three verbs in the title. Just a stroll downtown is enough to eat well, find churches, temples and religions, and love a lot, whether it's someone or something. In this text, I want to show you how to invite you to go for a walk in SP on a Sunday!

Quarantine has been pushing us to the limit . And living alone can be very positive at this time, or very negative. My experience tells me that when I'm alone, I tend to accumulate tasks. I work more, produce more, brainstorm more, but I sleep less, rest less, do nothing less. This is because when I work and produce, I feel distracted. If you live alone , you may notice that your level of tiredness must have increased, and not because you started cleaning the whole house at once, or because you're carrying bags and bags of shopping - in fact, a topic for another text - but perhaps because you're keeping yourself busy, trying to fill an empty space. So, I want to bring you an itinerary for a day of respite in São Paulo! I would say that this Eat, Pray, Love is more like a tragicomedy, and we can take advantage of it! Shall we?

Eating is also a concern, you know?

Starting the day with a good meal is essential. We've already listed some incredible restaurants in São Paulo , but do you know any places that serve breakfast? Of course... Of course, there are bakeries, like Beijamin, that specialize in morning treats.

However, I highly recommend you start your morning by going to Kez Bagel , a very cute, cozy and small Jewish food restaurant, located in both Pinheiros and Higienópolis.

A trip to Higienópolis can also be a point of reflection about downtown São Paulo. Old and chic buildings, streets without trash, without dirt, a false sense of security, all of this makes up this predominantly white and wealthy neighborhood!

Our Eat, Pray, Love also includes criticism; walking downtown is a constant reflection. How did we get to where we are? What can we do to reduce inequalities and bring a more dignified life to everyone? Downtown allows you to interact with others! You can enjoy Kez Begal for breakfast and then eat a delicious PF in one of those old-fashioned, very original bakeries!

You can also check out where to have lunch in downtown São Paulo , if you prefer to do this tour in the afternoon! What's also worth it and it's beautiful, the important thing is to enjoy Sunday in São Paulo ! <3

Our next stop on Sunday in São Paulo... Pray!

Far be it from me to demand any religion from anyone! For me, praying has more to do with contemplation and knowledge, and necessarily requires following some doctrine. Therefore, I invite you to look at yourself through the mirror: a book.

Books can be great company for those who live alone. Through words, more or less intertwined, we hear and see each other, but we also get to know other realities.

One of my favorite bookstores in downtown São Paulo is Megafauna. With a super youthful vibe and full of different books, Megafauna is located in Copan , one of the historic buildings in SP, a great landmark for modern architecture.

The visit to Copan itself is a tour. Opened in 1966, the project was designed by Oscar Niemeyer, it is considered the largest reinforced concrete structure in Brazil, with sinuous curves and unparalleled elegance. Located on Avenida Ipiranga, it is a landmark and should be visited 😉

We even have an apartment on Avenida Ipiranga and São João , one of the most famous corners of São Paulo, and the subject of a song by Caetano Veloso. Have you heard it ? Well, it is with this MPB rhythm that we enter Megafauna and pray for beautiful books that address political issues in Brazil, new writers, new novels... In short, it is a place that you cannot leave empty-handed, and it makes us think about the importance of living bookstores and libraries.

The time to love is here and now: breathe.

I think that nowadays, loving life has become both a necessity and a challenge . As already mentioned, the pandemic has brought us the need to quarantine and stay at home . And because of this, our home has stopped being a place to rest and has become a place of many mixed feelings. Therefore, finding external environments that welcome us is essential to maintaining our mental health.

My favorite part is the parks in downtown São Paulo, more specifically Parque da Luz , which I already mentioned a little when I talked about the Enciclopédia Negra exhibition. Parque da Luz is also an open-air museum, with very peculiar and beautiful sculptures. And who doesn't like to enjoy a Sunday in São Paulo to sunbathe or breathe fresh air?

Also known as Jardim da Luz, it was opened in 1825 and has 113,400 m2, which is plenty of space to stretch out, rest and have a nice picnic. What I love most about Jardim da Luz Park is its size and the different types of people you find. You'll see traditional families, cool – and rebellious – young people, homeless people, workers from the nearby museums, employees... In short, everyone trying to find a bench to sunbathe, breathe, and enjoy the greenery of SP.

An excellent end to a Sunday in São Paulo

I'm sure that after this tour, you'll feel refreshed. It's important to note that living in downtown São Paulo also involves finding some escape from urban life, using urban life. We live in a chaos of noise, people, situations... But we're also in the center of one of the world's powerhouses in culture, leisure and food. A hub that brings together so much history, that invites us to think outside the box and discover something new.

Now, during the pandemic, going out has become a challenge in life. Therefore, I recommend avoiding crowds, trying to go to restaurants that have scheduled times, always wearing a PFF2 mask and when you get home, washing your street clothes and taking a nice shower!

Take care of yourself and enjoy your most precious backyard, downtown SP. Oh, and if you've done this tour, tell me how it went? My email is: omiobinrin@gmail.com
